Ubiquity for Firefox from Aza Raskin on Vimeo.

Ubiquity is an experimental Firefox extension that gives you a powerful new way to interact with the Web.

You’re used to telling Firefox** where you want to go** by typing Web addresses into the URL bar:

With Ubiquity installed, **you’ll be able to tell Firefox what you want it to do **by typing commands into a new Ubiquity input box.

Che vi sembra? .)

-> Make your Data Web Friendly

A Web language is not only a markup language (be XML, SGML or binary). For example, JPEG is not a Web format, but a format used on the Web. A Web format has the capability to play into the Web, it has linking capabilities.

The simple fact to be able from my Web site make a link to another Web site somewhere else on the network without having to go through a prior agreement is a major feature of the Web. It seems obvious now. It was not at the time it was designed. People created good Web sites, crap Web sites. Some sites have disappeared, some have changed their organization, such as it broke many links on the Web. This is part of the social process of using a technology. When a big enough community decides that this Web page other there contains good information, it will become a reference. There will be abuse, but like in any human communities.

The net result is that the Web became a very successful source of information.

People who are creating the Semantic Web technologies such as RDF and RDFa do not propose a perfect system. The goal is to have a system which is using the nature of the Web (links). RDFa is a proposition to make Web friendly your data in your Web pages (html). People will certainly abuse it. It will break here and there, but the net effect is the creation of a network of hyperlinked data. The value and trust about data will be created by the community usages and the social network. The technology is just the support.

On behalf of the SIMILE team, I’m very happy to announce the release of
Citeline, a web-based, WYSIWYG exhibit editor for publications, bibliographies and other citation collections.

Citeline is a freely available service designed and developed by the SIMILE Project and run and maintained by the MIT Libraries. It open for anybody to use, inside and outside the MIT community and it’s intended to provide a path for the publication of citation data on the web in a structured and re-usable way.

Citeline is found at
-> http://citeline.mit.edu/

and you can read more about it on this blog post

http://simile.mit.edu/blog/?p=67

We are also proud to announce the release of Zotz, a firefox add-on that adds Citeline exporting functionality to Zotero, so that you can drive Citeline’s editor with data coming directly from your own Zotero
collections of citations.

You can find Zots at

-> http://simile.mit.edu/zotz/

and you can install it like any other Firefox extension in your
Zotero-powered Firefox browser.

Lodevole davvero.

While looking at the thousand different exhibits in the wild, we soon realized that many of them were lists of publications, bibliographies or other collections of citations. We also heard many comments about Exhibit being very easy to use and deploy for technically-savvy people, but that an entire class of data-lovers were a little put out by having to “touch under the hood” of a web page in order to build an exhibit out of their data.
